My Viral Chocolate Sauce Recipe
When I first posted this recipe, I had no idea that people would love it so much… But to my surprise its been viewed over 5 million times!! This is just proof of how many people are looking for a less toxic way to feed their families.
When you buy chocolate sauce from the store, they are filled with artificial flavors, preservatives, and many other unnecessary ingredients. The ingredient labels can contain 10-20 ingredients! Why do that when you can make my families favorite chocolate sauce naturally, with only 5 ingredients and for a fraction of the price? Add this to some whole milk (we use raw) and you have a chocolate milk that you can actually feel good about feeding your family! And that’s a good thing, because it will disappear as soon as you make it.
When I originally developed this recipe I was trying to create a copycat Starbucks Mocha sauce to use to make my goats milk mochas at home. This sauce not only fits the bill, but its better!
I have gotten lots of questions about using alternative sweeteners like coconut sugar, maple syrup, honey, monk fruit etc. That is the beauty of recipes, you can adjust them to fit your specific wants or needs! I was going for a very specific flavor when I made this recipe, and for that I needed to use sugar (I only use organic sugar if using sugar). But I have since made a version replacing the sugar with half honey and half coconut sugar and it was delicious! I also make it using Cacao sometimes depending on what sin the pantry.
I have also had people ask how much sauce you need to make hot chocolate, and I’m going to give my answer here. This completely depends on how you like your hot chocolate! Just start adding some chocolate sauce and mix until you reach your desired level of chocolatey-ness!
When I first started making it I would just put all of the ingredients in a mason jar with really hot water, put the lid on tightly and shake well. But if you have an issue with the sugar not dissolving completely or the cocoa being clumpy, you can mix it in a small saucepan and stir over low heat until completely mixed.
When you first make this sauce it will be significantly thinner than it will be after you refrigerate it. Once refrigerated its more of a fudgey consistency, but when warms its more of a syrup. I store it in a mason jar and just scoop it out with a spoon. Can be stored refrigerated for about a month.
This is a kitchen staple and non toxic swap recipe all at once, and I’m so honored that it is now a part of so many households worldwide. It really warms my heart and I hope you love it as much as we do!!
